It came good right at the last moment up here in north Wales, what a stunning part of the world!

I am about to pack my car up and hit the road for my six or seven hour drive back home to Cornwall after a glorious few days up here in Abersoch, north Wales. The bass fishing has kicked us hard because the conditions have been so tough - summer, what summer?! - but literally in the last few minutes of the Savage Gear filming we have been doing I managed to hook and land a rather lovely Welsh bass around the 4/5lb mark off a shallow beach……………

And that one fish has literally tied together all the filming we have been doing in this magical part of the world. You know how fishing can give you a good kicking a lot of the time? Conversely I think that just occasionally fishing decides to give you a break and reward the effort you are putting into it! I was messing around with this cheap as chips and truly stunning light lure rod which I stumbled across purely because one of the Pure Fishing lads had it with him and I asked if I could have a go - the jolt from that last-gasp bass on this 9’ 16g rod about ten yards from my feet was something else! I am trying to get hold of one of these rods to give it a really good workout around me in Cornwall for the lighter estuary stuff especially. I love a high-end lure rod, you know I do, but I do have a particular thing for a really, really good budget rod.

I haven’t got any photos yet of that bass I luckily managed to land yesterday evening because they are all being downloaded and backed up by our (bloody hard working) filming lad. I managed to shoot a few photos myself up here in north Wales when the light went off especially, but I was the angler being filmed doing the fishing and I wasn’t able to really go to town with my photography.

Next time, I gotta come back and see it when the bass fishing is on, I still have to pinch myself that my work enables me to come to places like this and spend time with such good people. A big thank you to a local lad who has so kindly gone out of his way to help us out with the fishing, you all have a good weekend, I will catch up with you next week…………
