Absolutely gorgeous out here in Kerry, so why the dreams about being attacked in the African bush?!

Judging from some photos my youngest girl sent me from the beach yesterday evening, it looks like many of you are (finally!) getting some lovely warm weather back home. Yesterday out here in Kerry was stunning, and for filming purposes it could not have been much better. We have done a little bit of bass fishing, but mainly we have been getting a whole load of different shots that the cameraman Barnie needs for what we are trying to achieve out here………

The bass I have caught so far have come mainly at range on the new colours of the Savage Gear Seeker. I found a few fish the day before yesterday by blasting a 30g Seeker out, letting it hit the sandy bottom, then slowly retrieving it, let it hit the bottom again about half way in, and pick the retrieve up again. They were not big bass, but when you are filming and trying to nail specific sequences, any fish are most welcome. Good to see a few gannets diving and terns working on bait as well. John tells me that just like back home it has been far too cold out here, so this warm weather is most welcome for the fishing and the soul.

We spent a good bit of time yesterday surrounded by big blue skies and very clear water, perfect for Barnie to shoot a load of underwater footage of the Gravity Stick Paddletail, the Slender Scoop Shad, and also Savage Gear Slap Walker 12.5cm/20g surface lure which I really like (very long-casting, very easy to walk). I got a quick glimpse of some of the footage and it’s really interesting when you see a surface lure filmed from below and how much of the lure moves underwater when you are working it across the top if that makes any sense. Very clear water and calm seas are invaluable when you are trying to film this sort of stuff. I woke up at bloody 3.30am this morning and I wasn’t even dreaming about fishing! I don’t know which heart pill causes me to dream so much and so vividly these days, but I woke up full of adrenaline because I was being attacked by an elephant and a buffalo in the African bush - go figure! No chance of getting back to sleep, but it’s a great part of the world to welcome a new week in…………..
